Mighty Morphin' MMO Rangers

Working on a new redesign. I'm exploiting the "Power Grid" aspect of the story, with hints of "Iron Man" and "The Centurions-ions-ions". Sooo many drawings precede this one and I'm still only 45% there.

I'm working it out with ink and colored pencils until I find "THE design". Mainly simplifying shapes. It would be hilarious if I ended up with the original 90's spandex.

Can you tell I started gaming recently?
Iron Man-esque undersuit. This one's pretty much there.

Doodling @ My Day Job 7: Revenge of the Bic

FYI, the "Life Drawings" section of my portfolio blog is in the process of updating. Check it out, when you get a chance. Now if only I could find time to update the rest of that heap...

Doodling @ My Day Job 6: Havana Nights

My "unorthodox underdog training montage" continues! Drawing the customers now. Still up-to-10-minute drawings. It's a LOT easier to detail the drawings when the characters' traits and costumes are there to see and memorize.

My Influence Map: Blogger Edition!

I thought I'd begin steps to design my own "Influence Map". For those like me, who are getting this advice late, an influence map is a big poster/ collage filed with your most influential artists.

People who do what I wanna' do, FAR better than I currently do it.

The hope is to help the map-maker focus their own personal art to reflect the map. This exercise can be REEEAAALLY hard if you're a blog-surfer like myself.

See as big as this list is, I'm SURE I'm forgetting someone...

Animatic: "Monkey & Robot's Flying Circus"

From...2010? Rough (30 sec-1 min panels) pass for the 3rd Act. this marks my first use of Toonboom Storyboard Pro's animatic system. It was beyond user-friendly, and beyond fast.

Monkey and Robot are chased to the top of the atrium, where Monkey has a final encounter with the mad scientist responsible for his genius-level intellect. The moment brings up memories of all his fellow monkeys who were reduced to "failed experiments".

Story: Mars Elliot and Ken Gray
Storyboard Segment: Brian Sydnor

Workshop Assignments

Disney Animation vet, Tom Bancroft, has an online character design workshop that involves drawing assignments. I'm happy to support this cause and try to add something every go around. I keep missing the live show (day jobs and all that...), BUT I'm really happy with what the "deadline/ live critique-pressure" is helping me crank out. In the end I have few regrets, and hopefully I'll be able to see it live one day.

Newer stuff.

Experimenting with a new (to me), WAY faster clean-up technique, while watching DVR-recorded toons from the weekend.

"Catch Phrase" Animatic

Animatic Test for a web series, done entirely in the famously efficient ToonBoom Storyboard Pro. This episode features the doctor's eccentric assassin, 'Runs With Pants Off'. Temp SFX by soungle.com, and myself.

Special thanks to Adam Harrington for providing the voice of the lead character.
